I have a confession to make....

I have gone over to the dark side. After twenty years of being firmly on the AK side of the never ending AR/AK debate, I now own a Rock River AR.(Hangs his head with shame.) My best friend is an instructor in the army, he teaches people to shoot their rifles again before they are deployed to the sand box or trashcanistan as he calls them. He is also a very accomplished match shooter with the AR platform. He built this rifle for me and gave it to me while he was home for turkey day. I felt obliged to at least shoot it. I walked next door to the range friday and shot the dam thing. AND I LIKED IT! I liked it A LOT! This is a very difficult time for me. I almost feel like I know what a gay man must feel like when he finally comes out of the closet after 40 years. Its light, its handy, it has GREAT sights and NO recoil. Flame away GIM! I am gonna put my chaps on and go shoot my my new pop gun. Attachment 83290

You're just trolling.

Nothing wrong with AK's, nothing wrong with AR's. I like both... a lot!

Just keep the AR clean (it does require a bit more maintenance than an AK) and it will continue to serve you well.. with the added bonus of typically much better accuracy than the AK!

Here's a fun drill for your AR: Go to a hillside, sprinkle around 20 or 30 empty 12 gauge shells over a 10'x10' or so area. Walk away until you are 50 yards from the hillside. See how fast you can successively shoot them from a standing position, one after another!

Congrats. I have never understood the debate. The two rifle designs are separated by decades. Both are very popular and serve their users well. Both have have pros and cons, why the hell can't we all just get along. I like the AK better, but that doesn't make the AR bad. Opinion and fact are two very very different things.

There's plenty wrong with BOTH.

That's why it's good to have at least ONE OF EACH.

Or you could have what would result if an AK mated with an AR and have a Robinson XCR....

It is absolutely true. Dave and I have been arguing over the AK AR thing since 8th grade.

Im with goldberg on this one. I like both, both have their purposes. I like the AK more and as far as small caliber goes, I'd like the 5.45 over the 5.56. But the AR certainly has its place, and its advantages.

Plenty of people have been laid low by both, probably more with the ak ;)

Nahhh...... I have both, and prefer the AR.

But I have feeling this is going to devolve into a ar vs ak thread.

I hope not. I still love my AK's. I am really infatuated with my AR right now though. It is amazingly easy to shoot well. It blows my mind that Dave has such a hard time teaching people to shoot this rifle. We truly have a crisis in this country when it comes to shooting. MOST of the people in our army can not shoot worth a sh!t.

Get yourself an M16 army field manual.

I am not saying I don't like my AK and SK... just use them a lot less unless i have something that needs accuracy by volume.

Last victims? A few old toilets... they didn't stand a chance.

Edit:

here is a source for a a2 field manual... 5.99

Only if you want to go to jail. Good luck with that.

Oh, the horror. Even worse than the AK vs AR debate, it is the AR brand debate. Please God spare us.

Armalite builds a 9 pound version chambered in 7.62 NATO.
They run real good.

Of course you can have one of each. Why else did God give you two hands?

Re: I have a confession to make....

It's OK to have an affair with an AR just don't tell your AK's and keep those AK's for when that AR breaks down. I too am an AK guy, I have five or six plus the shotgun and there's also an AR in my safe, I even shoot it once in a while but its not what I'd grab for something important.

Re: I have a confession to make....

Having been a firm AK enthusiast for quite some time I can sympathize. I got out of the military and swore I would never pay $600(current price then) for a rifle I needed to spend all my spare time cleaning as I had while I was in. Things happened. The most notable one for this discussion was that I picked up a pre-ban AR for $500. It is/was sweet, triangle handguards, no forward assist, rounded trapdoor, all I needed to do was change the birdcage for a 3-prong.

Every tool has a use. The more tools you have, the more work you can do.
